Live Recording & Critical Recognition

In August 2020, Trotovšek and Canyigueral performed and recorded all Beethoven Violin Sonatas over three evenings at the 68th Ljubljana Festival. This led to Lana Trotovšek receiving the Prešeren Fund Award, Slovenia’s highest artistic honour. The performances were released as a 4-CD set by Slovenian Radio and TV label ZKP in collaboration with Festival Ljubljana.

Critical acclaim:

- 5 stars in Musical Opinion (UK) – "Here is an extremely fine set of these immortal masterpieces played throughout with artistry, refinement and total commitment by these gifted artists. The achievement of these musicians is well worth seeking out. Trotovšek’s violin tone is grippingly communicative. Electric, vibrant interchange between the performers, breathing and phrasing as one." Robert Matthew-Walker

- "Melómano de Oro" in Melómano magazine (Spain) – "We are delighted not only by the impeccable neatness of the notes, all in their place, but also a good style, with passion, beauty and capacity for seduction, flowing with happy efficiency from both interpreters, which give us a delight that is difficult to surpass... Knowing how to act as a single instrument, in an admirable example of performative holism where the union of both artists results in a product greater than its sum, truly rich in nuances and original, convincing ideas."* (Antonio Soria)  Read more https://www.melomanodigital.com/resena-beethoven-lana-trotovsek/

 - Revista Musical Catalana (Spain) – "This live recording made by the ZKP RTV Slovenia has produced 4 CDs of a marvellous interpretive quality. The strength and vivacity that surrounds the version of the fourth sonata leads to a luminous, radiant reading, full of warmth and also freshness of the beautiful Spring sonata... And it is in the Kreutzer Sonata and, of course, in the monumental Sonata op. 96 that closes the cycle, where Lana Trotovšek and Maria Canyigueral elevate the artistic understanding to the maximum expression." - 5 stars in DELO (Slovenia) – "Their unforgettable playing takes our breath away. We follow their musicianship as the most intense thriller. On one hand, bloody passion, on the other, gracefulness. Whether faced with a witty, light-hearted, dark, gentle, melodious, bouncy, lyrical, classic, romantic… Beethoven, they offer an aristocratically elegant, astute, but always stormy live performance."
